Attractions in Cairns include the Kuranda
Skyrail at Smithfield. This is about
a 10 minutes drive North along the Cook Highway
from Cairns airport.
The Skyrail will take you up to Kuranda
- a village set in the tropical rainforest of
Far North Queensland, where you can catch the Kuranda
Scenic rail train back down to the city centre.
*
Next door to the Skyrail you can visit the Award Winning Tjapukai
Aboriginal Village and try your hand at spear
or boomerang throwing or go at night for an awesome
traditional Aboriginal dance and fire show
followed by dinner.
*
You can also drive up the Range from Smithfield
to Kuranda and then continue on to The
Tablelands - see section on Tablelands.
In Cairns town city centre, try the Rainforest
Dome which is located next door to the Cairns
Casino.
On a hot day drive yourself to Sugarworld,
a water theme park based about 10 minutes
drive South of Cairns.
Best variety & value of shopping is at Cairns
Central shopping centre next to Cairns
Railway Station.
Locals Tip:
Drive yourself to the cheaper Stocklands Shopping
centre
on the Mulgrave Rd about 5 minutes South of Cairns Central.
This is where all the locals shop for clothes & food.
